The Sudbury chapter of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron is hosting two upcoming events which might very well be of interest to Yacht Club members.
This year’s Squadron AGM and Spring Launch will be held at the Spacecraft Brewery, 854 Notre Dame Ave, (the old Bus Depot) on Tuesday, May 28. Our speaker is Peter Kimbell from Environment Canada who is a specialist in extreme weather. We get underway with drinks, reminiscences and eats around 6:30 pm, with Peter's presentation around 7:30 followed by our AGM. Anyone interested in sailing, weather or beer is welcome to attend. It's a cash bar, order off the menu, no cover charge event! Hanging about for the AGM is certainly not mandatory; indeed, many in the audience flee to the exits at the sound of the gavel.
But wait! There’s more!
The Maritime Radio (DSC endorsement) course is running on Saturday, April 27, at Living with Lakes. If you or anyone you know is planning to cruise in a VHF radio equipped vessel, note that this credential is a legal requirement. Registration is available at www.cps-ecp.ca . If the on-line registration link is broken (it can happen), you can register on the morning of the course, but should let me know in advance that you plan to do so. This is a one-day session with the exam in the afternoon. Minor children taking the course must be accompanied by an adult.
Have a good spring everyone! No doubt we shall see each other at the first work party where we attempt to retrieve docks which have floated down the lake on the high water.
Cheers,
Rick Cooper
