The local Canadian Power and Sail Squadron group has some upcoming functions that might be of interest to sailors:
Fun:
May 28: AGM and Spring Launch! Spacecraft Brewery, 854 Notre Dame Ave, (the old bus depot). Drinks and eats at 6:30 pm (order off the menu. No admission fee!). Presentation at 7:30 pm -- Peter Kimbell, an extreme weather specialist from Environment Canada, talks about marine weather. AGM at 8:30 pm (please see attached notice). Please rsvp to rbcooper@sympatico.ca so we can give the kitchen a heads-up. BTW, the beer here is excellent.
Courses:
On-line registration is not yet available for the following courses but will be soon. Just head to the CPS site and follow the links. Questions? Check with our Education Officer, Alain Landry, at alandry1988@gmail.com or call 705 222 BOAT.
PCOC Course. May 25. Living with Lakes Centre, 840 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury. 9 am -- 4 pm. This course qualifies boaters for the mandatory Pleasure Craft Operator Card. Please ensure that minor children are accompanied by an adult.
Maritime Radio. June 15. Living with Lakes Centre, 840 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury. 9 am -- 4 pm This course equips boaters with the Restricted Operator's Certificate (Maritime) DSC endorsement, which is required for all operators of a marine VHF radio. Early registration is a good idea so that you can review the material before the class.
Seamanship. Stand by for further announcements about this fall's course offerings. We plan to offer Seamanship (Boating 4) and may also offer Boat and Engine Maintenance.
Also...
A representative from SunSail, a global chartering company, will probably be attending a CPS meeting on June 2 at the Parkside Centre (10 am). If you are interested in the chartering process, here is a chance to speak to an expert first hand. For more information, give me a bell: rbcooper@sympatico.ca
Cheers all,
Rick Cooper
Commander, Sudbury Squadron
